The Source Category column and filter

Retain up to four labels from your source data as Source category 1, Source category 2, Source category 3, and Source category 4. For example, use location, asset group, department, and ownership. These labels organize reports without changing depreciation calculations.

Import and edit categories

On either import mapping screen, map your spreadsheet columns to the four source categories under Organization. Numbered headers such as “Source Category 2” map automatically. Existing Category, Class, and Group headers continue to map to Source category 1.

The original mapped column names are saved with imported assets. In tax and book reports, Group By and Then by show these names with example values, such as “Source category 1 — Location (e.g. North, South).” Older imports without saved headers show the category number and available example values. If files use different headers for the same category, the choices show both names.

Review the values in the import preview and edit them if needed. Each category supports up to 100 characters. Imported longer labels are shortened to that limit. Empty cells remain blank.

After import, open an asset, edit its four category fields, and save. Existing source category values remain in Source category 1. Splitting assets and rolling a return forward preserve all four categories.

Show, sort, and filter columns

The Tax and Book asset grids offer all four categories under Columns. A category containing data appears automatically unless you have saved a different column preference. You can show, hide, reorder, sort, and filter these columns. Blank values appear in a “(No source category)” filter bucket.

Build a layered report

On the Report tab, choose Depreciation Schedule or Book Depreciation Schedule and choose a source category in the header’s Group By control, then choose up to three more categories in the Then by controls.

For location above furniture and fixtures, group by the location category first and the asset-group category second. Reverse those choices to show asset groups above locations. Each level has a heading and subtotal. Category subtotals cover the entire group even when its assets span multiple pages.

Save the layout to reuse your columns and grouping order. PDF and Excel retain the nested headings and subtotals. CSV contains asset rows in grouping order with the category columns you chose to show.
