One ZIP with everything your firm has, in JSON. Go to Settings → Data Export and click Download data export.
You own your data. This export exists so you can move to another system or keep your own copy, without asking anyone.
What is in it
Clients | All client records. |
Tax entities | All entity records with their configuration. |
Returns | All tax return records. |
Assets | All assets with full depreciation data. |
Users | All firm users. Passwords are not included. |
Audit log | The last 10,000 audit events. |
Notes | All notes and annotations, with author attribution. |
Export metadata | Timestamp and record counts. |
The metadata file is worth keeping. Its record counts are how you check the export is complete rather than truncated.
When to use it
Before deleting your firm account. Deletion is permanent and anonymizes user data. Take the export first. See Your plan and your seats.
Migrating to another system. JSON rather than a proprietary format, so it can be read by whatever you are moving to.
A periodic copy for your own records.
What it is not
This is not a report and not a tax software export. It is the raw data, structured for a machine.
For figures formatted for a return, see Open the Report tab and pick a report.
For a file your tax software can import, see Export a report for your tax software.
For a spreadsheet you will read yourself, see Export a report to Excel, CSV, or PDF.
Who can do this
Exporting firm data is a Technical Admin and Manager permission. It is not part of the Read-Only role. See User roles, and what each one can do.
