Choose this when the bands in your file are properties or lines of business. It is the route for a rental client whose schedule is organized by address, and for any entity that needs depreciation to tie out per property rather than only in total.
Steps
Click Properties / activities. A preview opens listing every group in the file.
Read the tags. Each group is marked either “matches existing activity” or “will be created”. Matching is by name and ignores capitalization, so “OAK AVENUE” finds an existing “Oak Avenue”. Nothing is created until you confirm, and what the preview shows is exactly what the import will do.
Click Use groups as activities. The panel is replaced by a confirmation line with an Undo link.
Finish the import as usual. Review the grid, correct anything that needs it, and commit.
The confirmation line reads:
Groups will import as activities. Each asset gets its group’s activity assigned at import, matched by name. Missing activities are created. Undo
After the import
Every imported asset carries its activity, so per-activity Form 4562 and per-activity subtotals work immediately. You can see which property is off rather than only that the total is off.
Individual assets stay editable. Change one asset’s activity on its own page, or several at once from the assets grid.
The original label also remains in Source Category, so you can always see which band the file put an asset in, even if you later move it.
Undo, before you commit
Once a route is confirmed, the group column stops appearing as an editable mapping in the column table and reads “routed to Activities” instead. That prevents it from being quietly re-pointed somewhere else.
Undo restores it to the normal mappable set and reopens the question.
