Search, filter, and sort the assets grid

Three controls narrow the grid, and they compose. Search inside a filter, then sort what is left.

Narrowing is also how you build a selection. The header checkbox takes every row the filter is showing, so a filter is the first step of most bulk changes.

Where this is in the app

Dashboard → open the return → Assets tab

All three controls live on the grid there: the search box above it, filtering and sorting in its column headers.

Search

The box above the grid matches as you type. It looks at four things on each row:

  • the asset name

  • the category

  • the Asset ID

  • the names of components under a parent building

Typing returns you to page 1. Above the grid a line reports what is showing, such as "Showing 2 of 19 assets", with the search term as a chip you can clear and a Show all link.

Column filters

A funnel sits in the header of Status, Category, Method, Conv, Section 179, Activity, GL Account and the four Source category columns.

Click the funnel and you get a list of the values actually present on this return, each with the number of assets behind it. Click one to select it, and a checkmark appears beside its count. The grid narrows to the union of what you selected, and the menu stays open so you can pick more.

  • All statuses (or all categories, methods, conventions, source categories) at the top of the list clears that column's filter.

  • The funnel turns colored while a filter is on it.

  • Filters on different columns stack.

A funnel only appears where a column has more than one distinct value. A register with a single method shows no funnel on Method, because it would do nothing.

Blank values do not disappear. Assets with no category collect under "(No category)" and assets with no source category under "(No source category)". Both are options you can filter on.

Sorting

Click any column header to sort by it. Click it again to reverse the direction. Sorting returns you to page 1.

Paging

The grid pages at 200 rows. When the filtered set runs longer than that, a pager appears under the table with a line reading "Showing 1-200 of 412 assets". That count reflects your filter, so it answers "how many vehicles?" without you counting anything.

A set that fits on one page shows no pager and no count line.

Totals

Total Cost and Total NBV sit under the grid and sum the filtered rows. Filter to one category and read the total.
