The assets grid ships with eleven columns and carries fourteen more you can switch on. You control which ones show and in what order.
What shows by default
Asset Name, Asset ID, Category, Tax Placed-in-Service Date, Method, Conv, Cost, Total Prior Depreciation, Current-Year Depreciation, Beginning NBV, Status.
That is enough to review a register without scrolling sideways.
Asset ID is your own identifier for the asset — the asset, tag, or item number your books already use. A firm that does not number its assets can hide the column like any other. See Asset IDs.
The fourteen you can add
Column | Switch it on when |
Recovery Period | You are reviewing lives across a mixed register |
Section 179 | You are checking this year's elections |
Bonus | You are checking this year's elections |
Prior §179 Depreciation | You are checking that history came across on a conversion |
Prior Bonus Depreciation | Same |
Prior Other Depreciation | Same |
Source category 1 | The register was imported and you want its first source-data label visible |
Source category 2 | You want a second source-data label visible |
Source category 3 | You want a third source-data label visible |
Source category 4 | You want a fourth source-data label visible |
Activity | The return has several activities and you want to see which one each asset sits in |
GL Account | You are tying the register back to your chart of accounts |
Book Acquired Date | You want the book acquisition date visible beside the tax dates |
Book In-Service Date | You want the book in-service date visible beside the tax dates |
The three prior-depreciation columns earn their place right after an import from another system. They are how you check that the depreciation already taken came across with the assets.
Source category 1 has its own behavior, including when it turns itself on. See The Source Category column and filter.
Show, hide, and reorder
Click Columns above the grid. The customizer opens.
Visible lists every column with a checkbox. Tick to show, untick to hide.
Order lists the same columns with up and down arrows. Move a column to reposition it.
Reset to defaults puts visibility and order back to the shipped set.
Asset Name cannot be hidden. Its checkbox is disabled.
Your layout follows you
Column choices save per user, not per return or per client. Set the layout once and every return you open uses it.
The save is per grid. The assets grid, the Book (GAAP) grid, and Spreadsheet Edit each keep their own layout.
