A return's assets live on one grid. Nearly everything you do to a register happens there, and the fastest way through it is the same every time.
Shape the columns to the job. Narrow the grid with search and filters. Then act on everything the filter left, in one pass.
Where this is in the app
Dashboard → open the return → Assets tab
The grid fills the Assets tab, the first tab on an open return.
The three moves
Shape. Eleven columns show by default. Fourteen more are available through the Columns control, and your choice is remembered. See Choose and arrange the columns on the assets grid.
Narrow. A search box, a filter on Status, Category, Method, Conv, Section 179, Activity, GL Account and the four Source category columns, and sorting on every column. See Search, filter, and sort the assets grid.
Act. A menu on each row, or tick the header checkbox and use the toolbar. See Select assets and change them in bulk.
Filtering is not only for reading. The header checkbox selects every row the filter is showing, so narrowing the grid is how you assemble the set you are about to change.
Opening one asset
Click anywhere on a row to open that asset's edit page. The grid is for finding assets and for changing many at once. Full edits to a single asset happen on the asset itself.
Totals under the grid
Under the table you get Total Cost and Total NBV. Both sum the rows your filter and search left, not the whole return. That makes a filter a quick subtotal.
Total NBV shows a dash instead of a figure while any row in the set has no beginning NBV yet, such as an intangible saved without its recovery settings. Finish that asset, or filter it out, and the total comes back.
When the filtered set runs past one page, a line reads "Showing 1-200 of 412 assets" under the pager. On a set that fits on one page, no pager and no count line appear.
Banners above the grid
Two banners can sit above the grid on a return.
Assets excluded from tax computation. A book-side import left assets without a MACRS class. Assign classes opens the guided surface that fixes them.
Imported assets that carry a source category but no assignment. Assign in bulk filters the grid to the unassigned assets, selects them, and scrolls you to the grid ready for the toolbar's Edit action. This one is covered in full in Change a routing decision, or assign groups in bulk.
